Camp Boggy Creek | Sunset Waves Blanket

CWT Week 4 of 2024 Sampler Blanket CAL

THE SUNSET WAVES CROCHET BLANKET

Hello, crochet friends! I’m so excited to share my latest project with you—introducing the Sunset Waves Blanket, a bright and cheerful chevron design that’s perfect for beginners and seasoned crocheters alike. This project has quickly become a favorite of mine, not just because of its fun and easy stitch pattern, but because it’s going towards a cause close to my heart: Camp Boggy Creek.

ABOUT THE SUNSET WAVES BLANKET

This blanket is all about simple, joyful crochet. The design features a classic chevron pattern with a one-row repeat, making it perfect for those new to crochet or anyone looking for a relaxing project. It measures 40 inches wide by 50 inches long, the ideal size for a cozy throw. What I love most about this pattern is its light, airy feel—it's breathable and perfect for Florida’s warm weather. Florida being the state where Camp Boggy Creek is located.

The colors I chose are inspired by a beautiful sunset, with vibrant stripes that bring a splash of joy and positivity. Each stripe captures a different shade, blending together to create a gorgeous, uplifting vibe. It’s truly a blanket that feels like sunshine and smiles, making it a wonderful gift for a child who will receive it at Camp Boggy Creek.

WHY THIS BLANKET IS PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS

The Sunset Waves Blanket is made with a simple one-row repeat, so once you get the hang of the pattern, you can easily crochet without needing to look at the instructions over and over again. This makes it a great project for practicing your stitch consistency while enjoying the rhythmic, meditative nature of crochet. It also works up surprisingly fast, thanks to its light and open design.

YARN AND HOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

For this project, I recommend using a soft, lightweight yarn in a variety of bright, cheerful colors. You can go with a cotton blend or an acrylic yarn to keep it easy-care, which is especially important for a blanket that might see a lot of use. I used a 5.50 mm (I/9) crochet hook, which helped create that beautiful drape and airy feel.
