Welcome to Week 3 of the 2024 Sampler Blanket Crochet Along: Layered Cake Stitch!

Layered Cake Stitch

Hey, fabulous makers! It's time for the third installment of our Sampler Blanket CAL. This week, we’re diving into the textured Layered Cake Stitch, also known as Ridges with Half Double Crochets. This stitch adds a beautiful, textured layer to your blanket, making it stand out with its unique ridges.

YARN SELECTION

For this project, we’re sticking with our go-to, Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Merino. This yarn is perfect for its lovely sheen, soft feel, and the added bonus of being machine washable—ideal for a project that's going to get a lot of love.

Color Choice: For Square Three, we're using color #61/Grapeade. This rich, mid-level purple hue will beautifully showcase the Layered Cake stitch.

About the Layered Cake Stitch

The Layered Cake Stitch, or Ridges with Half Double Crochets, creates a stunning textured pattern that’s both visually and tactically appealing. The ridges are formed by alternating rows of half double crochets, worked in the back loop only (BLO).

PATTERN INSTRUCTION:

Foundation Chain: Start by chaining 52.

Row 1: Hdc in the third ch from your crochet hook and in each ch across. (Total 50 sts)

Row 2: Ch 2 (does NOT count as a stitch), turn your work,

Hdc in the horizontal loop just under the front loop on the front side of the work.

Insert your crochet hook from the bottom to the top of this loop. Repeat for every stitch across.

(Total 50 sts)

Row 3-47 : Repeat Row 2

Tip: It is wise to count the number of stitches you have in each row periodically to make sure you are staying on track. We are NOT counting the chain 2 at the beginning of each row as a stitch and if you work on top of it you may add too many stitches to your row.

Tie off and weave in your ends.
